According to linguist Mario Pei, translation is a lifetime job.
That remark always struck me as exceptionally true, because an immense fascination and endless curiosity towards words and languages are a part of me since the most remote moments of my life that I can bring to memory.
As a child, I always found myself immersed in books and encyclopedias and I was constantly asking the meaning of words. During my teenage years, my favorite hobby was to translate songs from English and Spanish into Portuguese, a habit that produced countless translation notebooks. Always standing out in Portuguese and English classes, at the end of high school I already knew that I wanted to pursue a major in Languages.
At college, I fell even more deeply in love with translation, in an intellectually stimulating and enlightening environment where I could see this craft under a more solemn and professional light, understanding the knowledge, the skills and the qualities that make a competent professional translator.
In 2007, only 17 years old, I officially initiated my career as translator being hired as an intern for the translation department at the leading translation company Lionbridge. At this position, I had the opportunity to practice extensively and improve my translation skills and knowledge of my mother-tongue, as well as of the foreign languages. Subsequently working internally in translation agencies, I developed a solid understanding and a strong ability to handle the requirements and the workflow of the translation/localization market.
Today, as a self-employed translator, I am fully prepared to leverage all possible resources to ensure quality, taking into account the customers’ needs and preferences, dealing with mostly urgent deadlines and articulating different skills with versatility to work in projects of different areas, types and styles.
Among us translators, it is common to say that translation builds bridges – between languages, cultures and between people. I am convinced that I possess the materials, the tools and the knowledge to build these bridges, with a passion for what I do, ethics and a strong commitment to quality.
