Profile

Buongiorno,

My name is Simona and I am a freelance translator. I was born and raised in Italy, where I attended Classical High School, until the age of seventeen. After moving to Canada, I attended McGill University in Montreal where I received a B.A., a Master, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy. While completing my Doctorate I thought Philosophy at Marianopolis College (Montreal). In 1986 I moved to Washington, DC where I won a competition for a job as one of the official translators and interpreters at the Embassy of Italy in Washington.

I worked at the Embassy from 1988 until 2013. During my employment, in addition to translating from English into Italian and vice versa, I worked on the writing and editing of press releases, letters and speeches, and on the content of the Embassy’s official website in both languages.

All these activities, together with my humanistic education, gave me the opportunity to gain a thorough knowledge of and to remain in constant contact with both cultures, as well as to use both languages in a variety of contexts. My mission is to offer businesses and individuals translations that capture not only the meaning, but the spirit of the source text as well.

My attention to detail in every aspect of my business allows me to deliver a high quality product which is tailored to the specific needs of each client.

Where I live

Washington, D.C., is the capital of the United States. The signing of the Residence Act in 1790, approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. The District is not a state or a part of any U.S. state.
Washington is in the humid subtropical climate zone. Spring and fall are warm, while winter is chilly with annual snowfall averaging 15.5 inches (39 cm). The architecture of Washington varies greatly. Six of the top 10 buildings in the American Institute of Architects' 2007 ranking of "America's Favorite Architecture" are in the District of Columbia: the White House; the Washington National Cathedral; the Thomas Jefferson Memorial; the United States Capitol; the Lincoln Memorial; and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The National Mall is a large, open park in downtown Washington between the Lincoln Memorial and the United States Capitol. It is the location of political protests, concerts, festivals, and presidential inaugurations.
