Hi,

I'm Salmah. I live in Mauritius where the official language is English but French is dominant in many areas. The native language is Mauritian Creole which is very near to French. I have been educated in both English and French up to tertiary education. Consequently I am well versed in both English and French and can translate from and to both languages.

I have a passion for languages and translation. I have been teaching languages for the past 25 years and do freelance translation on a part-time basis including week-ends and holidays.

I shall be pleased to collaborate with you.

Where I live

Mauritius is beautiful island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa. It was once a French colony but was then taken over by the British. It got its independence in 1968 and since then the country has made much progress. Education is free and compulsory up to 16 years. The main pillars of economy are the Sugar Industry,textile, tourism and financial services.

Mauritius has a very rich cultural identity as the inhabitants are of various origins and religions. Hindus, Muslims, Chinese and Christians live in harmony. Tourists are mesmerized by the numerous festivals all throughout the year. Christmas and New Year are considered as national festivals and they have a Mauritian touch quite unique in the world.

People come to visit Mauritius specially for its beautiful beaches and seas as well as for the festivals. For Europeans and Americans, life is quite cheap and the shopping is very interesting. I would love to translate the different cultures of Mauritius.
