Profile

Hello, I'm Aloysius, A Senior Translator and Proof Reader/Reviser.

I hold a combined B.A. in English and French (with Linguistics as Minor) from the University of Yaounde, Cameroon and a professional M.A. in Translation (with International Relations as Minor) from the University of Montreal, Canada.

I translate with equal ease from French to English as from English to French, although my favourite Language Pair is French to English. The peculiarity with me is that I enjoy early initiation into both languages, having followed both the Anglo-saxon and French sub-sections of education from the Primary level. (For reminders, Cameroon is a bilingual country with French and English as its official languages).

Recruited upon graduation from professional studies in 1986 by the Presidency of the Republic and integrated into the Corps of Translators and Interpreters of the Cameroonian Public Service, and later sent on secondment to that country's Economic and Social Council (upon the request of that Institution), I currently enjoy over 28 years of professional experience, including 10 as Director of the Linguistic Unit of Cameroon's Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
In addition to professional consultancies with other national and international Institutions, this experience has been enriched and broadened by responsibilities and consultancies in other domains, notably Teaching (University of Yaounde I, National School of Administration and Magistracy), Administration (ECOSOC, WCRP; World Conference on Religions for Peace). and Politics (Union of Councils and Cities of Cameroon, Parliament, National Decentralisation Council), punctuated with a number of Training courses, Seminars and Colloquia.

In 2011, I retired from the Public Service at the regulatory age of 55 and took up Freelance Translation. I provide top quality translations in the above-mentioned Language Pairs,at competitive, negotiable rates. A versatile, resourceful and passionate Language Professional, I am very experienced in thematic and conceptual research, very respectful of dead lines, with a keen eye for those details that make all the difference. My field of specialisation is General.

Where I live

Yaounde, Capital of the Republic of Cameroon; also known as the city of seven hills, with Mount Febe being one of the best known. The top of this hill harbours the very first 5 star hotel of the capital city. Other prominent buildings located on the top of some of the city's hills include The Yaounde Conference Centre, from where one has a breath-taking panoramic view of the sprawling metropolis; the Unity Palace, also known as the Etoudi Palace (the official residence of the President of the Republic) located on the Etoudi Hill, The National Assembly (also known as the Glass Palace) situated on the Ngoa Ekele hill, not far from the University of Yaounde I, the mother University of all of Cameroon's Universities. The city is divided into 7 Districts, with the Administrative Quarters sharing the Atemengue Hill with the former Presidential Palace, now housing the National Museum. The city of Yaounde is a sprawling metropolis that plays host to many an international conference and reputed for its bilingualism, a perfect reflection of the country, considered by many as Africa in miniature. Yaounde hosts the Central Bank of the Central African States, as well as several other sub Regional ,continental and international Institutions, The population ranges between 1.5 to 2 million inhabitants. There you can find several Restaurants offering a wide range of dishes: european and African especially. You will be thrilled by the variety of Cameroonian cuisine and the wide variety of delicious, succulent tropical fruits. Night life is very interesting, with Night Clubs where you shall be thrilled by Bikutsi, Makossa and Tchamasi dancers, not forgetting others like 'Bend Skin', all these being typically Cameroonian music genres. The people are reputed for their legendary hospitality, openness, friendliness and wam,-heartedness.
