Where I live

Turin is the capital of the Piedmont region of Italy, and it is an ancient and well laid out city.

The city used to be a major European political centre, being Italy's first capital city and being home to the House of Savoy, Italy's royal family.

The city has a rich culture and history, and is known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, opera houses, piazzas, parks, gardens, theatres, libraries, museums and other venues. Turin is well known for its renaissance, baroque, rococo, neo-classical, and art nouveau architecture.

Characteristic of Turin is the kilometers of archades connecting different buildings. These enable people to enjoy a walk through the city centre, regardless of weather conditions, while stopping at coffee shops, restaurants, sweet shops and fashion retailers.

The city is home to the Shroud of Turin: a linen cloth bearing the image of a man who appears to have suffered crucifixion. It is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in the city centre. It is popularly believed to be a depiction of Jesus Christ.

Turin is also famous for its popular flea markets, the most popular being called Gran Balon. The event is held every other Sunday and is a place for the sale of rare antiques and second hand goods.
